We always start of our evening with dinner in downtown Kitchener. The last two years we have enjoyed a mouth watering dinner at Gilt, but this year we decided to try something a little different. We parked at KPL and walked down to B...at THEMUSEUM. We were not disappointed in our choice either. I have always enjoyed the atmosphere of B. It has very friendly staff; is a smaller environment, making for a more intimate setting; and their food is always fabulous. I have been only once before, with a coworker friend, but it thoroughly impressed me. My husband has been a few more times and always has good things to say. We came in at the perfect time, ending up on one of the long window tables. We had four extra seats, by the end of the night we offered up the other end of our table to a couple who came in without reservations. We did not mind sharing, there was enough room for all of us to enjoy our time. We also were able to witness a staged photo of their elf on the shelf, Brewster, which I was happy to see up on their Instagram the next day. The staff there seem to love their job and the company they keep, while also having fun and treating the customers with utmost care. As well, I find their rates very reasonable for the quality of food they make. We ordered appetizers/shared plates, as we did not want to fill up too much before the show. We also opted for some delicious drinks, I started with the Eggnog and my husband started with a sour beer. The eggnog hit the spot nicely, warming my cold fingers.
I knew it was the perfect experience when tingles started shooting up my arms listening to Joni NehRita singing my two favourite songs (O Holy Night and All I Want for Christmas is You). Mike Nadajewski was the perfect voice as the narrator of The Polar Express, and I especially loved his rendition of 12 Days After Christmas, had me cracking up. As always, Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser was fantastic and funny. He conducted the heck out of the symphony, thanks to all the talents of the K-W Symphony Orchestra, the Grand Philharmonic Choir, the Grand Philharmonic Children's Choir, Carousel Dance Company, and the KWS Youth Orchestra. The Carousel Dance Company always brings out the little girl in me, watching the dancers spin around the stage, wearing intricate costumes, and always so different from the year before. Loved the two stage hands dancing, what a hoot. However, it was the Coffee Dance (Arabian Dance) from The Nutcracker that had my eyes shining in delight, my favourite of the suite, and the costumes just matching the rhythm and magic of that piece so beautifully. I cannot wait until our fourth outing next year, and am so excited to find out what the theme of 2018 might feature.
