Such an amazing party. Had a great time. Even decorated some fruit cups with pumpkin faces, which the kids loved. We put out cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, and chips before dinner was served. We managed to keep the kids at bay for the desserts, until after dinner.
We did the obligatory first birthday cake smash. However, instead of giving him a big cake, I made him a smaller version of the cake. Made it with two mini tart pans, iced them together, iced the top and put on some green sparkles for a leafy look. Put a cinnamon stick in for the pumpkin stem, and to hold in the sparkler (shaped like a 1) we bought for singing to him. He was confused by the sparkler, and also by the cake at first. Finally seemed interested in the cake, at least in squishing the icing in his hands and putting it in his hair. Too cute! Loot bags consisted of a mini pumpkin, or gourd, from Nauman's Pumpkin Patch, and a "cutie pie" (apple pie on a stick) from Sweet and Savoury Pie Company. We weren't too impressed with the little apple pies actually, for the price we paid they weren't put together very well, and they were falling off the sticks. Had to wrap them individually with cling wrap, but worried the kids would lose them. I did have fun creating tags for the loot bags that said "Thankful for" and the child's name. Went over very well. My mom even provided the fantastic animal banners, orange, blue and white, from Ikea. Our little girl wanted some up in her room too. Was such a good time, and just an amazing show of love and support for our little guy. Cannot believe he is one already, time sure does fly. I am not ready to return to work, luckily I asked for an extended leave, but it is an eventuality that I will be sending him off to daycare. Better make the most of these moments.
