1. Wake up well rested, a surprise in itself. Your husband will draw you a warm bath first thing, after a full night's sleep (a blessing in a household with two sick kids, including a teething baby). Sit in the bath listening to a Mother's Day song list on Google Play, while your husband handles the waking children (complete with dressing the eldest and changing the bum of the youngest). 2. Husband will make you a Snickerdoodle coffee (Vincenzo's brand) for you to enjoy while in the bath. Relaxing, stress free morning, uncommon these days. 3. When you finally emerge, be swarmed with love. Kisses and hugs, the best part of your whole day. Then be showered with gifts. Beautiful handmade cards, a craft from your little girl with help from her caregiver, a delicious dessert made by your daughter's caregiver (which you plan to share with your little girl), and a purse by Cloud Rabbit Designs you have gushed over for months (your husband knows you well). 4. Go to brunch at a well known restaurant in the area, hosting a special Mother's Day brunch. Enjoy Eggs Benedict at The Bauer Kitchen, while your little girl enjoys her waffles with cream and fruit. Very delicious, especially enjoyed the addition of the arugula on the Benedict. Too early for mimosa's, but that means it's not too busy. and the Shirley Temple is just as delicious. Eggs Benedict: buttermilk biscuit, house-cured back bacon, arugula, poached local eggs, hollandaise, home fries, and fresh fruit. Optional: Go to a place attached to a bakery (Bauer Bakery) and be surprised with a going away treat (a chocolate macaron and a peanut butter and jelly macaron), because you are a mom. YAY! 5. Stop in at the bakery close to the restaurant, Sabletine Fine Pastries, in order to pick out a delicious treat to take on a picnic in Stratford. Go with the cherry danish, even if you were hoping for a strawberry tart (couldn't find the kind I love). 6. Head to Stratford and meet up with other family. Walk around and check out the shops, especially Family & Company toy store. Look through chocolate shops and stop in for ice cream at Scooper's (they had a free cone for any moms, although I declined knowing I had so many other treats in store). Stop in at Coffee Culture and order a White Chocolate Mocha Latte (unfortunately, tasted too much like coffee, so I didn't much enjoy it). 7. Be happy the weather holds out and go to a local park in Stratford for a picnic dinner. Enjoy a crazy amount of food: homemade sushi, balsamic ravioli, Focaccia bread sandwiches (summer salami, rosemary ham, avocado and feta spread, honey mustard, dill Havarti cheese and tomato), veggie stix, Bottle Green sparkling Cranberry and Orange, Prosciutto and Abbot's Gold Caramelized Onion Cheddar. Most items were purchased from Vincenzo's (our hot spot). Take some home for leftovers. 8. Finish off the day with a leisurely drive home, putting the kids to bed on a good time, and enjoying a mimosa while finishing off the Sabletine treat and looking at the beautiful gift from your daughter.
9. Knowing the real present is having these amazing kids in your life and knowing that being a mom is the most rewarding part of your life. 10. Day complete. Feel overwhelmed with love.
