We made our way over to Chainsaw for 7 and were greeted with the cutest little table for our small company of three, which later became four when our social media coordinator came to sit with us. We were right at the front, no less. We were also picked first to head up for food, which happened to be Taco Farm all you could eat tacos. As you can see from the photo above, I took way too much, but somehow managed to stuff it all down. Being delicious helped a lot. Tried the beef, chicken, pork and fish...but I think my favourite was the fish. It was an interesting blend of spicy and flavourful. Topped with basmati rice, guacamole, feta, tomato salsa, mango salsa, deep fried pork shoulder, shredded cheddar, greens. I just kept throwing things on and by the end was amazed there were really only four little taco shells in there. The added bonus, the nacho chips on top, soooo good with the guac.
We were also given a couple drink tickets, and I enjoyed the classic vodka seven. All of the tacos managed to soak up the sangria, so I wasn't too buzzed. We listened to speeches, and Anna and I were surprised when Hayley did hers and called us up on stage. Embarrassing, especially when trying to navigate in heels (which I never wear), but it was so thoughtful and unexpected to receive a beautiful card, with a nice personal note, and a Words Worth Books gift card from her. After the speeches, a bit of vanilla cake, and good laughs, I decided to head home on the bus. I have to say that my experience working for CCE has been at times frustrating, but mostly rewarding and amazing. Frustrating in terms of trying to fit things, learn how to best use InDesign for the page I am working on, and for the late Sunday nights. But I am so grateful to have been accepted as a volunteer, to be welcomed by this great group of editors, and to feel like I belong and love what I am doing. It also helps having something to hold in your hands at the end of the entire process and say "I helped to make this happen." Read the CCE, help keep us in print! It's an honour to be a part of this paper, no recognition necessary, but a lovely icing on the cake.
