I did find I really liked KJ's character development in this arc. She is shown to be fierce, determined, strong, and she refuses to let anything stop her (even having her first period come on after saving Mac's life). She shows up all of the other girls, and puts a clueless Mac in her place every time she makes a snide or uniformed remark about women and periods. She also risks herself without thought to consequences and takes matters into her own hands, sometimes crossing a terrifying line between human and inhuman. This was very much a story about KJ, and I believe edition 4 will have a focus on Tiffany (another character I enjoy). The graphics and colours are bright and idyllic, but there is always an undercurrent of danger. Again, pinks and like colours are harbingers of bad tidings (which is interesting as KJ wears pink, does that mean something?). The girls have no moment of rest and must continuously rely on each other, with little information or access to information about what is happening to them or the original "world" they hail from. The story is keeping me interested, wondering how these young women will continue to defy the odds and survive from jump to jump. The reader becomes as hyper aware of the surroundings as the characters. Continuously questioning who to trust and what is happening. Is the woman from the future the instigator of all the issues to come? What is with the vision KJ experienced after touching the mysterious triangle? What significance does the baby they are protecting have in the future? Where are the girls sucked off to next? A very intriguing and thought provoking graphic novel. For fans of all things 80s, Stranger Things, and girl power. With stunning illustrations, vibrant colours, strange creatures, and an ever changing story line, which continues to delight and terrify. This is a fantastic graphic novel for the novice or veteran reader alike.
