Mags is the steady, quiet friend, who allows Noel to hog the spotlight. Noel seems to take for granted Mags friendship and caring personality. The two of them are oblivious to the others emotional attachment, until they are split apart by his leaving for College. While Mags is the only one who stays in town, she is also the character who seems to mature and grow the most, which Noel sees immediately when he returns. This is a book that really shows that distance makes the heart grow fonder. My favourite of the two stories. A very cute, quick read about the endurance of friendship and how some friendships can grow to be much more. Kindred Spirits: Elena is a Star Wars fan and she is so excited about the new Star Wars sequels that she decides to line up days before the premier of Star Wars VII. While she already purchased her ticket online, she is hoping for the experience she has witnessed from past Star Wars premiers. She wants the camaraderie, the love, to be totally immersed in the Star Wars culture she so loves. Her father is the catalyst for her fanaticism, and his leaving her behind seems to have sparked a need in her to envelop herself in something they both care greatly about. Unfortunately, the line consists of only two other individuals. Troy, who is a die hard, older fan who has experienced 'The Line' before, and Gabe. Gabe is aloof, wanting nothing to do with either Troy or Elena, even though he seems to be her age. This is a short story about how to make the most out of a disappointing situation. About finding happiness when you least expect it, and about making friends with unlikely people. I was a little frustrated with Gabe's character. He is angry at apparently being unfairly judged by Elena, but he is doing precisely what he is angry at her for doing. Hypocritical much? Elena explains all of this to him, but it does not seem to ease his mood much. I loved the backdrop of this story, being a Star Wars fan myself. I wonder if Elena and Gabe liked the new Star Wars sequels. I also loved Elena's growth throughout the short story, she showed personal achievement and strength. She forced herself to find glimpses of greatness in her gloomiest moments.
