Bray was a very likable character, sympathetic in the fact she never asked for her ability and only ever showed love and compassion to her twin brother. She is kind, resourceful, smart and innocent. She befriends the new home owners, easily becoming a part of their little family unit. She works tirelessly to protect everyone she cares for, often at the expense of her own dreams and at the risk of her own safety. Brenik's character was so frustrating, which is how he is meant to be portrayed. There is no sympathy for him and I found his whining exhausting. When his chapters came up I both wanted to read how far he could sink and to skip on to Brayora's more blissful life. He was so hard to swallow, but his story was a good lesson on how jealousy eats away at the soul and often leads to irreversible mistakes and damage. The story was generally enjoyable, but there were times when the narrative fell flat or something happened almost too quickly. Some of the ending was a bit jarring, as though the author was setting up for a sequel and then thought against writing any more. This left me a little disoriented. In terms of the foundation, it was well written, interesting and had some lovable characters. I will be interested to see if maybe a sequel does come about, as there was still a slight possibility. I definitely loved all of the nods to some of my favourite 90s flicks, classic novels and the music selection! I was given a copy of this ebook, by The Parliament House Press, in exchange for an honest review.
