What follows is a mystery and adventure years in the making. The teens try to uncover secrets that others want left buried, resulting in their lives being in jeopardy. There are twists and turns, and some very sad, shocking truths. As a reader, I enjoyed the subtle commentary on drugs, prison over population, being poor and gun control. Hinting at issues in today's America, but not shoving them down the readers throat. Well done! I found Tommy's character was strong, well crafted and sympathetic, Finn was funny, charming and charismatic, Annie was ever present, emotional, unflinchingly innocent, but Silence's character bothered me. She was meant to be strong, but seemed weak, she would change her mind abruptly, causing me to often lose my grasp on her character's motivations. Some characters seemed unnecessary to the plot and added too much of a confusing distraction. Maybe they were meant to be a misdirection, but it made the plot too convoluted. I also found some chapters ended to quickly, as though there was more to say but the author cut herself off. Overall, a creepy read, with fear inducing scenes and terrible adult figures to pit our helpless teens against. Angst, puberty and death abound! I received this ebook from The Parliament House in exchange for an honest review.
