Moth is adorable from the start. Wanting desperately to be magical, a witch. She is witty, questions the towns loyalty to its prejudiced past, and is willing to fight for what she believes in. She is strong, proud, tries to support all those she loves. She is torn between her love for her mom and her desire to be a witch. Her friendship with Charlie is immediate and the connection is authentic. Both are outcasts, children in need of something more, someone to understand and appreciate them. The story was also well written. A great topic, about how little has changed in terms of prejudice and hate. But also spreads the message of hope and change. This graphic novel highlights the power of women, family, and friendship. There were a couple instances where pride of a character annoyed me and I wanted someone to call them out on their crap (but with no luck). Moments where more explanation would have helped the story. Also, I felt the ending was a tad rushed. Overall, a charming read (pun intended), and an open end for a possible sequel. Highly recommend for fans of cute, witchy, well drawn graphic novels.
