This graphic novel is also packed with a few bombs, well timed reveals that rock and shift the readers opinions, prior guesses at what was going on. These moments corrupt the heart of the story line, leaving the reader shaken. The colours are once again spot on. Some of the Gods are draped in darkness, like the Goth Gods, The Morrigan and Baphomet, who are locked in an abusive relationship. Where one assumes control (Morrigan, Badb, Annie) and one makes excuses for the abuse they endure (Baph). This graphic novel also endears us to Dionysus, the God who believes he can save everyone, but cannot even save himself. He is one of the Gods usually illuminated by light, colour, showing us the goodness within himself. Others are lit by colour, like the ever positive Amaterasu. Some shift between darkness and light, specifically Persephone, transitioning between the above world and the underground. The reader is still iffy on her loyalties and objectives. Is she evil or just a hurt teenage girl looking for revenge and love? This is a fantastic graphic novel that had me wishing for the next in the series immediately. Especially with that ending...so many questions need answering. Where is this going? I thought I knew a bit of what might be going on, but I seem to know less and less with each volume that comes out. I love it, I love questioning my own perceptions, being redirected or turned around, or simply thrown into another path entirely. The series asks the reader to think, to not take anything at face value, to not trust a single character. Be prepared to lose your favourite hero or your favourite to hate villain. There are no guarantees, there is no safety. Any God could die at any moment. Some of them will die beautifully illustrated, others will die ugly and harsh and useless deaths. Also love how Part 33, which reveals the most, does not have a stunning cover photo; instead the page is completely black and the numbers are fading. Time is running out. Seriously, everyone should be reading this fantastic turn in the graphic novel genre. Memorable characters and a crazy plot line make it irresistible and down right delectable.
