Progress Report 2

24/4/2014

Friday I was able to spend a large chunk of the day at the house painting. Saturday we took a break from decorating our new home with colour, to enjoy a lovely Easter lunch/dinner with family from my side and one of our great friends (whose been helping with the house). It was so great to take it easy and enjoy our deck and the sunshine, as it was a beautiful day, and to show off our home to some of the people we love most in the world. Couldn't have turned out better, and while half the time I was distracted trying to be the perfect hostess for the first time in our little abode, I had a blast. Especially at the park on the slides with my baby, having the time of her life.

Cannot believe the progress the boys made last night when they went over to the house. My husband, and a couple of our GREAT friends, went over to the house to start prepping for painting. My husband went about sanding and painting our white and gold railing black (which looks much more modern and crisp in the space, especially with our colour choice of light yellow and grey accent wall). It looks so fantastic, I cannot wait to get in there and paint tomorrow, to show off how nice it will be with the rest of our "look".

Our mystery garden

Today we finally got possession of our house. We are so excited, over the moon. We bought Chinese takeaway and decided to enjoy it in the comfort of the home we are building for our family. From here we will be painting and decorating and moving all of our stuff in. There is no end to the joy and amazement I feel at knowing that my husband and I have this place of ours; where we will raise our daughter, where she will spend her formative years, where we will see her grow into a young woman. It's beyond belief.

Bird House Building

14/4/2014

Volunteering for work that involves the outdoors can be very challenging. The bird houses were built by my husband, and one of our friends, but we had to wait for installation. The day we were supposed to go out turned out to be right after the major thawing of all the snow we got in winter, so the area they were in was flooded. Well, we rescheduled to this past Saturday, and only two of us were able to go...my husband and another of our friends. I had to watch the little one and ended up going out with my mom and Aunt to Elora.

Turns out they weren't able to finish, as large chunks of the area where these bird houses are located were still flooded. We have hopes to go out in the next couple weeks, in able to catch the birds while they are still nesting. If not, some will be put up with no occupancy for the spring/summer months. Even more interesting, my husband had to play landlord and evict mice families that had been living in the warmth of the old abandoned bird houses. Yuck!  Hopefully, the ones they were able to install will be utilized, so we can still monitor bird life in the area.

Hungry for sushi

11/4/2014

For the last couple weeks, I have been craving some good sushi. Well, the other night the craving kicked into overdrive, but I didn't have nori to make them at home, or any delicious shrimp to fill them. But, my husband suggested making a sushi ball, and why not, people make balls out of everything these days. Quick research online said this was a thing and I could make it. So, I went about picking out ingredients I did have; sushi rice, avocado, cucumber, and left over pulled pork. I mixed up a batch of my slap ya mama mayo and sloshed the pork in it. Then I did as suggested online and found a small, deep bowl and filled it with a bit of saran wrap. Boom, within a few minutes I had four little rice balls for my daughter (less the spicy pork) and seven big rice balls for myself (2 of which I saved for lunch the next day). My observations: an easy process with actually delicious results...thank goodness I also had left over packages of Kikkoman soy sauce from trips to the end-of-day sale sushi at the mall. Craving satisfied.

WLUSP Volunteer Appreciation Night

4/4/2014

On Wednesday night, I was invited to attend the Wilfrild Laurier Student Publication Volunteer Appreciation Night at Chainsaw, in Waterloo. I was very excited, as this would be a fun night with the other girls who work at the Cord Community Edition; where I have been volunteering, as a production editor, since September 2013.

We started the night with sangria at Jane Bond, and ended up drinking a pitcher each. The sangria went down very smooth, and was some of the best I have ever tasted. We stayed there a couple hours, just hanging out and talking about Jem, Sailor Moon, and other fun 90s nostalgia.
