The Canada Day long weekend has always been a favourite of mine. It usually means the beach, friends and fireworks...all of which I love. I love going all out, painting my nails red and white one year, going to Grand Bend even though it was insanely busy and watching the fireworks on the beach, with the lights of boats on the water looking like reflections of the stars. Last year our little one was bouncing around in my tummy as my husband and two of our friends sat on a green medium at Columbia Lake Fields. She seemed to love the sounds of the bursting lights in the sky. I cannot wait for her to see them, and hopefully not be scared of them. I am thrilled to have a baby to show this amazing holiday to, to share in this experience with a child...as I did with my parent's and our neighbours as we shot fireworks off in a sand bucket in the middle of our street (roofs hosed down for safety). Every holiday will now have a second special meaning, one just for me and my husband, as we will be able to make it that little bit more meaningful for our little one. She is going to go crazy when Christmas comes around, or at least be crazy annoyed with how much her dad and I are going to spoil her and make the holiday something worthwhile...since it's our favourite.
But this Canada Day she is going to sit out there with us, watching the sky fill with disappearing stars, symbols of why our country is so great, and why she is so lucky to have been born here. Hope everyone has a safe and happy Canada Day! Cheers!

I have learned from my mistake and have made sure everything actually within her reach is something she can play with, without harm coming to her or the item. I cannot believe how fast she is growing, and how quickly she learns to do everything. I miss my little baby who would sit with me or lie down with me, now she wants to be doing everything but that (other than having me hold her and walk her around all the time).
Swings definitely mean a lot to me, I even wrote a poem that involves sitting on a swing, reflecting about love; feel free to read the poem on the poetry page of this blog or here http://tegaux.deviantart.com/art/Your-Eyes-18320134.
Well, wish me good luck, I start training tonight for my 5K.
Also, took photos of the roaming chicken (out of the coop) and the goats and miniature horse my husband's parents have. I did not get a photo of the bunny that lives with the chickens and thinks he is one (Cadbury Easter Bunny exists!!!!)
Yesterday I spent the first part of my day, when the babe was napping, trying out my camera for focus, sharpness and zoom (I wonder what she will think when she is older and finds all these test shots of her sleeping...creepy or loving?). Then I looked into new cameras and ogled photographs of DSLR cameras online, dreaming of one (I am going to start saving now for a camera for my birthday). My camera takes some mighty fine shots, but I had camera envy when my friend J-man whipped his long lens camera out and showed me his crisp, clear images. Anywho, the rest of the day was stoked in anticipation for the first ever Solstice Sampling in UpTown Waterloo (Public Square). This year UpTown Waterloo decided to host a food sampling event with the aid of a bunch of restaurants in the local area. Needless to say I was right on that bandwagon, wondering why it took so many years for this to come about (remembering days of reading foodie blogs that kept mentioning sampling events and my mouth salivating with a need Waterloo was not filling). This day was a long time coming, and I was glad we went early, as it seems a lot of people were in the same mindset as me. The line formed at 7 and continued to grow, and didn't stop even after an hour of us being there (eventually they had to refuse admittance to non pre-ticket holders, and the event is three hours). I suppose the Waterloo community is bursting with food enthusiast, who also like to get out on a nice night. The main tent was packed and piping hot, the babe was fussy after half an hour, so we had to make our way to the outskirts near the trusty Water Wagon to cool down, all while watching line after line form for the different sample booths (as we stood the booze line went from non-existent to longest line there). I would say that for an event that cost only $5, price includes plate, glass and two sample tickets ($1/ticket extra), it was a HUGE success. As my friend J-man pointed out, they need to expand it along King Street, so there is a lot more room, and have more businesses involved. But as this was their first year, and they didn't know quite what they were in for, they handled everything very well and we had an amazing time. We will definitely be back for the Solstice Sampling next year (happy first day of summer everyone)! Here's some of what we sampled:
