Today is my last full day, just the babe and me, of my maternity leave. It's bittersweet. I know that my little one will have an amazing time at daycare, if our third and final visit was anything to go by. For me, this is a reminder that I will be going back to work and my carefree baby and mama days are at an end. From now on everything will be intruding into our lives; from work, to friends, to family, to daycare, and it will never again be so easy as it was when we had a full year to be just us two, and daddy every once and awhile. I am going to miss it, and I know tears will be shed. However, this means that the next steps of our babes life are coming up. She is already walking around a bit, from couch to couch, from kitchen fridge to cabinets. I am so proud of her and all of her accomplishments and I love being able to see her develop and grow. Those are the moments I will miss the most when I am back at work, when she would all of a sudden do something she had never done before, just for me, and I get to clap for her and cheer and run to the computer to email daddy so he doesn't miss a beat (sometimes with a photo of the event attached). It will be a lot to learn to let go; and, where my days will be filled with waiting until I can pick her up, her days will be filled with fun, laughter and other children to help her grow, socialize, and build her personality (which is already plucky and amazing).

This past weekend was the 25th Anniversary of the Sun Life Financial Waterloo Busker's Carnival. We managed to make it out to three of the four days. On Thursday, we met up with two of our friends to see Steven Page perform live, for free, in the square. It was fantastic! He played some of his new stuff, which my husband and I enjoy, but he also played many of his BNL hits: Enid, Jane, The Old Apartment and Brian Wilson. It's amazing how much he sounds the same, as when Barenaked Ladies first started out. He was great, and the square was the busiest I have ever seen it.
This morning my husband and I attempted the morning routine we will be starting as of September 3rd. Turns out we did quite well, waking up (even after a terrible night of hardly any sleep), ate, got the babe ready, and were out the door by 7:45 am. We were so early, that we were able to stop for some coffee and tea at Misty Mountain Coffee. It was quite nice and I really enjoyed my blueberry rooibos.
The visit was once again perfect, and I knew once more that we made the right decision. I meant to only stay a short while, since the babe and I were tired from a sleepless night, but our home daycare lady is so nice that I lost track of the time, staying there for a couple hours just talking and playing with the kids. I cannot believe how wonderful this woman is, how much I trust her already. Even though I wish, for all that I am worth, that I could stay home with my baby; I know in my heart she will love the daycare she is in (both the kids and the woman running the daycare). Our daycare is so easy going, but firm on schedule and learning. The woman running it has the same values as my husband and I, and she watches and likes quite a bit of the same things that I do. I was happy to learn she enjoyed Sailor Moon, and is a comic book fan; as well, she enjoys the original Star Wars and doesn't mind being known as a nerd. My kind of person! I am so happy she was on board with us coming and visiting a few times, it is going to make the transition back to work just a little bit smoother. The babe was already crying when she left the room to help the little boy go potty, and I was in the room with her (talk about already being replaced, :P). I am so happy we have found such a loving and caring environment (much more personal than the Daycare Centre we toured). These last three weekends, before I return to work, I am trying to make the most of my time with my little one. On Saturday, I asked my mom to visit with us, as I wanted to check out The World's Biggest Bake Sale, on the Boardwalk at Ira Needles. Unfortunately, I read they did not make the Guinness Records book, but they were named Canada's Biggest Bake Sale, and were able to raise $13,000 for Rotary Charities in the area. Fantastic job by the organizers!
