As a little treat for the holidays, my husband and I decided to take our little ones to Blue Mountain for one night. We drove up there for 2pm and stayed at The Westin Trillium House (we got a great rate). It was a small room, but perfect for us. Right at the end of a hallway, with a stairwell positioned next to the wall where our newest additions crib would be. Our little girl was so excited to have her own pull out bed, and kept calling the hotel City Hall (we believe because it sort of looked like the City Hall from Paw Patrol). When we arrived, my husband took our daughter to Plunge, the aquatic playground, while I stayed in the room to feed our baby and was lucky enough to find Clue was on TV. The hotel was great, just what we needed, with wonderful service, very friendly and accommodating. They had a blast at the pool, even venturing into the outdoor pool, even with the cold temperature outside. The pool was very warm. There was apparently a slide, which our girl loved. She also loved wearing water wings.
Left: Southern Crabby Patties (mini southern style crab cakes on a bed of mixed spring greens with fresh mango salsa and topped with spicy southwest sauce - good, but a little too crisp). Middle: Wild Bison Sliders (mini bison sliders topped with Rusty's signature B.B.Q. sauce, swiss cheese, tomato, lettuce and crispy onion rings - best we had, but missing the crispy onion rings, which was one of the most enticing parts). Right: Rusty's Racks (a 3/4 rack of Rusty's ribs, rubbed, smoked, and basted with our Signature B.B.Q. sauce. Served with fries and crunchy slaw - the slaw wasn't great and the ribs were meh). Left: Prime New York Strip (a certified USDA Prime New York Strip steak cooked to your liking and served with garlic spun mashed potatoes and fall vegetables - vegetables meant just green beans, which I love, but misleading. Steak was okay, but the mashed potatoes were bland). Middle: "Mmmm...Donuts!" ("Three Bite" sugar donuts with vanilla ice cream, drizzled with caramel, and topped with icing sugar - waited so long the donuts were stale, ice cream melted, and no caramel at all). Right: Dessert Pizza (fresh local berries baked on thin crust pizza dough and topped with applewood smoked cheddar and mozzarella - this was not good, the combination failed, and it was cold by the time we ate it). Even with that experience, and our babe being up a few times in the night and our little girl being sick, we want to go back next year. It's so enchanting, a nice getaway not too far from home. As we are not able to go away very often, it's always a treat to try something new with the family. We took a tour of the village one more time the next day, after my husband brought coffee and breakfast back to our room from Royal Majesty Espresso Bar & Cafe. We grabbed a beavertail to share (Avalanche - Skor Cheesecake), walked around, then hit the road to Collingwood. We stopped at Northwinds Brewhouse for lunch (highly recommend). We also managed to get a bit of Christmas shopping out of the way, both for our little ones and for a Secret Santa gift. See next entry for our meal at Northwinds, yum! Left: Breakfast sandwich, pressed, with egg, ham, bacon, cheddar and maple ketchup - was absolutely delicious (made up for the meal the night before). Right: Croissant with ham, cheese, and dijon mustard (also quite good) and a Gingerbread Latte.
