I love the little one like crazy, but sometimes mommy and daddy need a break from the parenting to go out and be together for a while. Especially when it comes to reconnecting with our good friends (although the friends love hanging out with the babe too). So, as a treat, this past Saturday our boo's Nana and Grandpa came to watch the little one, while we went with a couple of our closest friends to the annual Food & Drink Festival. It is held at the Kitchener Market every year and we rolled up there around 4:30...when it was all just starting to get underway. In all honesty, it was lots of fun and we had a good time, but I really enjoyed Solstice Sampling more than this event. I think this all stems from the first item we tried, having been the price it would normally cost when bought at the actual restaurant. So, that seemed a little weird to me, for a sampling event. But then, maybe this is more of a food show and not really a sampling show? Although, we had tons of fun with the free photo booth! It was the best part of the night, getting the images right there, each couple receiving a batch of them! We looked like dorks, but we loved it. For reference 1 ticket = $1. You bought them in sets of 10, same as Solstice. However, Solstice included a couple with your entry ticket. Both also provided wine glasses, but Food & Drinks were glass compared to Solstice's plastic.
We, unfortunately, left before Smoke's Poutinerie had officially set-up, so we didn't get a taste. We are, however, patiently awaiting the photos that were taken of us by Sylvia Pond Photography at the event. Although, it might not beat the Flashpoint Productions crazy, funny shots we took!
Although it wasn't as fun as Solstice, I think I would go to this event again. As long as we were going with our friends and our parent's could watch the little one again (I also liked Solstice as she could come with us). It was fun getting tipsy with my girlfriend and having the boys cater to our every whim (note: my husband would disagree this happened). After, we went with our friends for a drink at Shoeless Joe's, which just opened a new location in Waterloo. We were hoping the cool outdoor patio would be open (rooftop, overlooking King & University), but it was a bit too cold for that. We ended up sitting at the bar, watching some hockey, being impressed by the waitresses low cut tops and short skirts (good way to make tips, props!). I ended up getting a blue line (Absolut Berri Acai Vodka topped with Blue Curacao and lemonade, crowned with a splash of lemon-lime soda and sprinkled with wild blueberries), which was delicious! Although, I forgot to eat the blueberries at the bottom (I will remember next time). When we got home the little one was shambling around with Nana, having eaten 3 or 4 cookies and 2 yogurts (along with a delicious and healthy dinner). She had a blast, and I am sure she will love every time these two come by to babysit, or when she goes to stay with them.
