The Canada Day long weekend has always been a favourite of mine. It usually means the beach, friends and fireworks...all of which I love. I love going all out, painting my nails red and white one year, going to Grand Bend even though it was insanely busy and watching the fireworks on the beach, with the lights of boats on the water looking like reflections of the stars. Last year our little one was bouncing around in my tummy as my husband and two of our friends sat on a green medium at Columbia Lake Fields. She seemed to love the sounds of the bursting lights in the sky. I cannot wait for her to see them, and hopefully not be scared of them. I am thrilled to have a baby to show this amazing holiday to, to share in this experience with a child...as I did with my parent's and our neighbours as we shot fireworks off in a sand bucket in the middle of our street (roofs hosed down for safety). Every holiday will now have a second special meaning, one just for me and my husband, as we will be able to make it that little bit more meaningful for our little one. She is going to go crazy when Christmas comes around, or at least be crazy annoyed with how much her dad and I are going to spoil her and make the holiday something worthwhile...since it's our favourite.
But this Canada Day she is going to sit out there with us, watching the sky fill with disappearing stars, symbols of why our country is so great, and why she is so lucky to have been born here. Hope everyone has a safe and happy Canada Day! Cheers!
