Tuesday, both kids were lucky enough to go to daycare. My daughter was so excited to return to her old stomping grounds with her brother in tow, and excited to learn her best friend (who also started school) would be there too. Wednesday, we went to see a movie. We stopped at Coles in the mall, and each of us was able to pick out a book (Peppa Pig for my girl, Mr. Tickle and the Dragon for my little guy, and an awesome covered edition of Treasure Island for me). Then we stopped by Kernels for a snack size for both me and my little girl (say cheese cheese for me and superkid for her). Snack size is awesome, inexpensive and just the right amount for both of us to enjoy throughout the movie. Then we went to see Ballerina, aka Leap!, which my daughter was obsessing about. She loves dancing, and this movie seemed geared directly toward her. It was a bit long, and she was getting anxious by the end, but we enjoyed the story line and the dancing was amazing. After the movie, we went to Kitchener to meet my husband for lunch, at Exclamation. Which is a lovely place, with picks we each devoured. Run by a very friendly family, they offer large portions that are inexpensive. A great spot downtown! Lunch special comes with soup or salad, rice or french fries, and a crispy wonton. My daughter ordered sweet and sour chicken balls with french fries and wonton soup; I ordered the honey chicken with rice and wonton soup; and, my husband ordered the General Tao chicken with rice and a simple salad. So good! Then we went to the Kitchener Public Library, where we hung out in the fantastic kids section. We took out about 20 books or so, as we usually do. We love it there. The library has colouring pages for kids, tables with crayons, reading nooks, computer games and a fun book return chute. They also have large family washrooms that fit strollers, and have step stools for kids to wash their own hands. On Friday, my mom was at our house from the day before, and we decided to go for a trip to one of our favourite small towns, Elora. We go at least twice a year, to check out a couple favourite shops. Our all time favourite is Jammed Lovely, which is similar to Gifted here in Waterloo. I have been grabbing wonderful, hard to find items from there for years. This trip I found some adorable fox socks, amazing vintage looking gloves, bath bombs, and grab bags for each kid. The grab bags included the fizzy toys below (which you drop in water to reveal the toy within). My daughter found a green fairy and my son found a penguin. Next stop, we went to Sweet Distractions to grab something special for my husband, who was working. We found Big League Chew (grape) for him, Harry Potter Every Flavour Beans for my daughter (unfortunately, most were the disgusting flavours, although she liked the soap), and I bought the chocolate covered Oreo's to share between the three of us (with the rainbow sprinkles reserved for moi). Onward, we travelled to Twice Loved Books (a newish bookstore in an old house), where I bought some First Edition Tea (Pride and Prejudice flavour) and a book for my little girl. I love the shop, it's so quaint and filled with great bookish finds, as well as the books themselves. I regret not picking up the copy of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda I happened upon; maybe next visit I will be lucky to find it's still there.
Our final stop in Elora was to Wreckless Eric's, for some London Fogs, a date muffin, and my favourite cookie of all time, ginger molasses!!!! Our last visit, to this hot spot, we bought some burritos and were thoroughly impressed. Their muffin, cookies, and tea did not disappoint. It's a lovely little coffee shop, try it if you're in the area. I will try to post our Thursday adventures within the next couple of days; however, be prepared for butterflies, delicious sandwiches, and the eating of bugs!
