On the way home from the cottage, we decided to stop in Ottawa to stay with my sister's family for a couple days. This meant that on the Friday we had some time to kill, before her and her husband were off work. My husband wanted to stop at Beau's Brewery, and I had a restaurant in mind for lunch in Hawkesbury, Le Petit Pain (found on Trip Advisor). We were offered every comfort, with friendly hello and a helping hand when needed for the kiddos. Our little girl was given a colouring book and crayons to keep her entertained, which she loved. We also loved the selection of food, including the kids menu. We got meat and cheese with vegetables for our little girl (refreshing after all the junk she had been eating); included ham, a large slab of mozzarella, celery, carrots and a little bag of goldfish crackers for dessert. My husband ordered a grilled chicken salad, which he loved and said was a nice change of pace from greasy food. I ordered the Italian Quiche (sweet peppers), which came with salad options. I ordered beet salad, artichoke salad and potato salad, but was also given a nice green salad with radish. My goodness so much food at great prices, and all of it amazing. My favourite salad was the artichoke, but they were all perfection. The quiche, I had to feed my little boy so it became cold, but our server reheated it for me. IT WAS AMAZING!!!! We could not leave without buying some of the baked goods (looked so tempting and amazing). So we asked our daughter to pick a cookie for her and her cousin, then we picked four desserts for the adults for after dinner dessert. My daughter picked heart cookies that said Je t'aime (I love you) on them, so cute! While I picked fruit tarts. Those have been my favourite since I was a little girl, we even had strawberry tarts made special for our wedding; although, my half eaten one was taken while I was making my speech...sigh. Le Petit Pain's were delicious! After lunch, we stopped in Vankleek Hill to visit Beau's Brewery. My husband tried some of the beer and purchased a few bottles. One for a friend, who was watching our place while we were away, and a few for himself he had yet to try. It was spitting a bit, but I fed the wee babe on their back patio under the hops (which was nice and cozy). It's a nice brewery, although we weren't expecting it to be in an industrial area. We like to visit Canadian breweries, especially ones with beer my husband truly enjoys. Personally, I don't drink beer, but I appreciate fantastic graphic design, which Beau's has in abundance. Check out the baseball playing monks! Was a nice day on our way to a wonderful visit to Ottawa. Next blog post about what Ottawa's visit had to offer, even with the rain.
