We love visiting with my sis and her family. They have a wonderful home, full of toys for our little girl to immerse herself in, plus she loves playing with her cousin so much. They click and play together immediately, even only seeing each other a few times a year. I am hoping they will be best of friends, and I have no doubt they will. Will be so fun when they are older and can travel to each other's homes for sleepovers, etc. The 'Wiches Cauldron was suggested by my sister, as a food truck they often enjoy. Serves sandwiches and soups, as well as cookies. Both the kids had the grilled cheese, which was huge! I got the Special: grilled Chicken with a tandoori mayonnaise, mandarin slaw, red onion, mozzarella cheese and spring greens on a fresh Kaiser. My husband ordered the Grilled Chicken: honey Lemon dill mayonnaise, tomato, cucumber, sprouts, mozzarella cheese and spring greens. My sister ordered the Oven Baked Ham: cranberry maple compote, brie cheese, rosemary mayonnaise, cucumber, red onion and spring greens (her and I traded halves of our 'wiches). My brother-in-law ordered The Trucker: assorted deli meats, rosemary mayonnaise, marinated eggplant, kettle chips, mozzarella cheese and spring greens. My sister and I had an upsized Creamy Potato Cheddar and Chive soup, while my husband and brother-in-law had the upsized Cajun Tomato with Italian Sausage. My sister was not wrong, this place is amazing, the food was melt-in-your-mouth. The soup was warm and creamy and everything you could hope for on a rainy day. Loved the taste of the tandoori mayo and mandarin slaw (a little bit messy, but worth it). Such an interesting combination, which actually highlights each flavour with the chicken.
It was such a lovely visit, and a wonderful ending to our summer family vacation. We cannot wait to see our niece again soon, so much development in such a short time from one visit to the next. It's nice to see the two girl's play together, as if no time has passed. Of course, they have their occasional spats, similar to my sister's and me when we were kids, but all is worked out in the end. It's funny, as I think my daughter is more the social butterfly, while my sister's daughter is more the observer, taking her time to come out of her shell (they are each the opposite of their moms).
Our cottage trip was amazing, and it was so nice to bookend it with family visits, seeing all my siblings in one go. Especially nice, as this summer has been a difficult one to find time to see them.
