On another good news front: after I was nominated as a finalist for Best of Waterloo Region in the Cord Community Edition, I started reading their website and reading the newspaper. Then, to my amazement, I noticed they had postings for volunteer editing positions. I thought, what the heck, I will put together a resume and try my hand at becoming the Urban Editor for the paper. On Tuesday I had an interview, which I was told wouldn't be too formal, but my nerves were still raw from putting myself out there and not knowing how this interview might possibly go. When I arrived I wasn't sure what to expect, and went to the wrong floor by mistake. After finding the right floor, it was more formal than I would have thought. I wish I would have researched more, and I was sure I flopped; for the next couple days I thought up better answers to the questions they had asked and kicked myself every time. Yesterday, I received an email saying they were giving me the position. I was so ecstatic! I am now a section editor for a newspaper, with a large readership! I cannot wait to start this position and learn more about Waterloo Region. My section focuses on the community in an urban explorer light; such as old buildings, events, restaurants, etc. I hope I do not disappoint them, and I hope this experience is rewarding for me as well. For the next year I am throwing myself into this, as editing is a huge passion for me and I hope to one day have a career in that field.
