For my birthday, my husband purchased two tickets to the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony's Yuletide Spectacular. A show dedicated to the holiday season. I have been asking to go to this event for years, and was delighted to get the gift. The night consisted of my sister babysitting, dinner at a restaurant of my choosing, and dressing up for a fantastic show.
The show certainly lived up to it's name. From the dance numbers accompanied by compositions from The Nutcracker, to a beautiful rendition of "Believe" by Police Detective Brian Duyn, everything was well done. I especially enjoyed Eriks Esenvalds "Stars", in which the lights were shut off and the Grand Philharmonic Chamber Singers would sporadically turn on little lights as they sang, to mimic stars in the night sky. Hauntingly beautiful. As well, Roch Carrier reading his famous The Hockey Sweater, with the orchestra providing music, was funny and heartwarming. We are hoping to make this a yearly tradition. Better birthday gift than I ever could have imagined.
PS the lighting in the restaurant was poor, hence the poor quality of the photographs.
