Finally got here, sorry it has taken so long to fill you in on the end of our trip to Prince Edward County. My little boy is sick again, and it's hard enough as it is posting once a week when he's in good health. Well, here it is. We had a blast, and will most likely be back to this area to check out more of the food scene, maybe hit up County Cider Co., as it was closed for a wedding (of course on the weekend we are there, haha).
Heading back to our rooms after an adventurous morning, we decided to plan for the afternoon/evening of our last day in The County. I had been wanting to check out County Cider Co., as a big fan of alcoholic cider, so we decided to head out Waupoos way. Unfortunately, it was closed, but we did manage to head a little farther to find Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Co. This place was beautiful, with a green roof, aging caves, and a beautiful wooden structure for entertaining large parties. The cheese, wow! We ended up purchasing the award winning Engarde Bongarde!! Goat Gouda (which we used on everything we ate the next week). We did try a bit of every cheese (except the mushroom one for me), and the cheese lover in me wanted to buy it all, but my husband was rational and said to pick one to go. My little girl loved the outdoor space and took to talking to other customers; about her outfit, the space, and the delicious cheese. She's a natural people person. Very last photo was a lookout on the way to Fifth Town, the scene was amazing.
When we couldn't go to the Cidery, we stopped at Clafeld Fruit Winery Market, a part of the Waupoos Estates Winery. We taste tested some of their fruity wine, but I bought some Pressed Iced Cider (it was delicious, cannot get enough, great with Nan bread pizza). Was a neat place, with lots of different options, some food, local artisan cheeses and spreads. As we were leaving it became very busy in there, but beautiful location across from the main Winery.
We headed back to our rooms to try to figure out dinner, as we were hoping for pizza from the cidery (hopefully next visit). We could not decide, so we drove into Picton with high hopes. After searching and not really knowing what we wanted, just hoping to grab something to take with us to Sandbanks Provincial Park, we landed on McDonald's at our little girl's suggestion. So there we were, in a foodie destination, eating McDonald's on the beaches of Sandbanks. It wasn't half bad, and with our colds we weren't really tasting much anyways. Our little girl was happy and loved the beach, we were happy to be with her and our little boy during the most beautiful sunset.
We did not end our vacation as expected, at a high end eatery in The County, but we ended it beautifully with our feet in the water and full bellies. Besides, we had a delicious homemade breakfast waiting for us the next morning as we took our leave; with a smile, a wave, and hopes for returning in the near future (possibly next time for camping).
