Her characters are so well thought out, their backstory's well written and detailed. You are right there through the torment, pain and triumph. There are so many twists and turns, and so many close calls that you are on the edge of your seat. It seems impossible that this ragtag group of thugs and thieves could pull everything off, could survive all those against them. But as the book emphasizes, "When you can't beat the odds, change the game." I purchased this book right from the get-go, having loved Six of Crows, but had been holding off on reading it because I did not want to reach the end. I wanted this world to continue, to not have to say goodbye to these characters who have quickly become my favourite literary team. But I could not hold off forever. I do not regret it, what a fantastic read. I will be recommending Crooked Kingdom and this duology for the rest of my life. These two books have been promoted to my Top 10 book list. And the quotes...so many memorable lines (mostly from Inej Chapters): "No mourners. No funerals." "The hearts is an arrow. It demands aim to land true." "The world was made of miracles, unexpected earthquakes, storms that came from nowhere and might reshape a continent." "Her heart was a river that carried her to the sea." Book 2/50.
