These two boys are everything! Their care and comfort of each other is so beautiful. How they work through problems together, give space when needed, support and love one another. It is honestly one of the healthiest relationships ever written. Even with the adversity they face they prevail, they love, they laugh. Plus, they have a solid group of family and friends who can help them when they need it most.
This book was really good about talking about disordered eating and coming out to family. Charlie and Nick realize they cannot do everything for each other, sometimes they need help from others outside their relationship. Knowing this does not weaken their bond, it only makes it stronger. Sometimes, when we are young (or even when we are older) we believe in a relationship it is us against the world, that we must be everything to each other, give everything to each other, or we do not love each other enough. True love is realizing our limitations and being able to seek guidance when we cannot offer the help the one we love needs. Beautifully drawn with impeccably timed jokes, but also such wonderful heart. There is never a boring moments and each detail is intentional. I loved the song choice when they drive away. I loved seeing how the long distance relationship was conveyed, how far apart they seem, but how close their hearts still are. While Charlie is away, Nick works on himself, his connections, and seeks comfort from family and friends. Honestly, the best graphic novel series out there, hands down!
