Okay, so I would suggest listening to the Lethal Lit podcast before jumping into this book. I think it would help to understand Hollow Falls and would introduce the characters a little more. I did not, which is okay because the story is intriguing and the characters are memorable, but I sometimes felt lost and confused. I had never heard of the podcast before, but I loved this author's previous work so I found this book and the description had me intrigued. All that to say, this was a fun little mystery that does not shy away from the grit and horror of murder and greed. There are real consequences and pain that these teens are subjected to in the name of ending a history of violence and death. Tig is headstrong and determined, she is fascinated by the unexplained and her mind can work through puzzles easily. Max is recovering from almost dying during their last case, but he is loyal and does not like when people push them around. Wyn likes to flaunt societal norms and is stealthy, and encourages Tig and her mind. It's a great friend dynamic between these three, even if Tig and Wyn might be at the beginning of something more. I really enjoyed the introduction of an older generation of mystery solvers and how much they resembled Tig and her friends. Tig's grandmother was part of a foursome of hunters that defied the expectations of the times and were unafraid of who they were and their capabilities. It was nice to see Tig and her grandmother connecting over their shared love of mysteries and adventure, even while her grandmother was angry and distanced herself because of the case Tig took on. It was not a book that was mind blowing, but it did its job well in telling an intriguing mystery and interweaving a problematic past with the hopes for a better future.
