My husband and I, with our friends, decided to volunteer some of our time to help out the City of Waterloo. What we decided to do was preserve some bird houses along the Grey Silo trails. A few tasks involved mapping out where all of the birdhouses were, check their condition, and mark how many there were. Last Saturday my husband went out with our friends, while I was tasked with caring for the babe, and they did all of the requirements in order for us to be prepared for the installing new birdhouses come spring. On April 5th we will be putting together birdhouses to replace those that are damaged. We will drive around in golf carts, trek out to the sites and nail them to their perches. After we have completed that, we will then monitor the bird life in the area. It is going to be quite an enjoyable way to volunteer, as we will be able to take the babe with us as we go on trail hikes, and she will enjoy the bird life as much as we will. However, this past visit it was a little trickier with all the snow. When the group returned they had tails of almost frost bitten toes, soaked socks and wildlife along the route. But it seems they enjoyed themselves, and it helped the sun was out the entire time they were there. Me, on the other hand, I got to spend a quiet afternoon at home singing, dancing, and having general fun with the kiddo (who this past Wednesday said her own name for the first time).
