This was actually a really great holiday romance novel. I loved how it threw conventional right out the window. Bee is my new favourite romance character, with her sharp wit, her humor, her beauty, and how loveable and kind she is to everyone she meets. Sometimes I still think Nolan did not deserve her. But, I will say this, he showed tremendous character growth throughout the book and had to deal with a lot as a former teen heartthrob, his fame being thrown away by a reporter looking for the next shocking gossip story, and his family. I applaud the talk about the pressures of fame, the ideals of purity pushed onto people who are famous, and the way women are treated within Hollywood and the entertainment industry. Specifically, how well written the differences shown to Nolan and Bee were in terms of their celebrity and sex life, how they were eventually treated, helped to elevate this book. It created depth to the barriers they both had to overcome and helped to push Nolan to see the contrast in treatment and work to be a better human being. This book also puts an honest face on sex work. Because let's be honest it is all too easily vilified, when in fact the porn industry has both good and bad elements (like any entertainment industry). Sexuality needs to be embraced more instead of shamed, especially when there is such a huge discrepancy in the way men are treated and the way women are treated (men are applauded for their "conquests" and women are shamed for being anything but "pure"). There is a lovely component to the book that showcases how tight knit Teddy's porn crew are, how easily they help each other and laugh with each other, having been through so many embarrassing situations together. Their props, confusion, and random talking points with the non-porn crew also added so many guffaws (I was in stitches a lot of the time). This book also highlighted the importance of family and how close both Bee and Nolan were with their respective mothers. How both Bee and Nolan were willing to sacrifice for their mothers, but also how supportive their mothers were for their careers and their dreams. They also both had really good found families, with friends in their respective industries. Nolan is still pretty tight with one band member, and is working on rebuilding his relationship with the other. While Bee is best friends with another porn star and good friends with both the stylist on the set and Teddy's son who is there helping with camera work. The book is a little longer, and some parts dragged or seemed unnecessary, but overall it was enjoyable and the steamy bits were good. A great romcom for the holiday season if you like your romance a little less vanilla.
