The story was interesting, with references to several mythologies. I especially love that they are incorporating the King Arthur legend with Hellboy's origins. I also love that several famous witches are involved in the plot. All the famous British witches are mentioned, having a specific role to play in the plot. Some good, some bad, some waiting to see where the pieces may fall. However, for some reason the graphic novel fell a bit flat for me. Maybe it was a lack of story, some confusing elements, careless introductions, scenes that were left without explanation, and the cult of white dudes that I had no care for. I cannot quite put my finger on exactly why I was disappointed. Several small things detracted from the overall meaning of the story. However, this was my first venture into reading the actual Hellboy graphic novels, as opposed to watching the movies, so I am probably missing a lot of backstory that might have made this graphic novel make more sense (it being the ninth volume). I love the darkness, the intrigue, the mythology and I always love Hellboy. Hellboy was as offbeat, humorous, crass, and belligerent. Overall Hellboy is still the most off putting, but likable superhero out there.
