Shelby is strong, fierce, independent and pissed off that everyone in town assumes her broken engagement means she has a broken heart. She is actually relieved, as she realizes she never loved her fiancee. Her heart drove off in a truck with Callen years before. This wedding is a chance for her to reconnect with him or at least shed him from her system. There were so many fun and original characters, with lots of sass, personality and love to share. The moments with Buck, Rosy and their two current foster kids are very real and touching. There is a lot of steam between Callen and Shelby. Their passion consumes the page. Sure there were moments I found too predictable and some parts I found too gushy, but overall I liked Callen and Shelby. These two are so independent, but clueless when it comes to their hearts. A great read about redemption, justice, love, family and learning to heal. There is even a stuffed armadillo that adds a touch of much needed sweetness and humour here and there. In a novel with lots of pain, heartache and learning to grow, you need a funny, stuffed, dead animal wearing silly outfits to break the tension. I received a copy of this book from the Harlequin Publicity Team for free, in return for an honest review.
