Willa and Ryder were such an amazing couple and their banter and relationship was captivating. It was a little slow at times, with a lot of back and forth. As well, I was a little impatient with how much they refused to communicate. And there were a couple moments that I felt were just too dramatic and unbelievable. However, their steam was undeniable and when they finally do talk they share so well and it is so emotionally strong. The way they easily care for each other, take their time to show they are learning, helping make life easier. Willa automatically changes her attitude when she realizes her error with Ryder's hearing. Ryder gives space when Willa needs it and pushes when he knows she needs someone to. They compliment each other so well. This novel had very heavy moments that were handled well. Mentions of mental health and a healthy look at Willa using services to help her (although, I would have liked a little more about Willa's apparent anxiety). Ryder's hearing is at the forefront of the novel, and as he becomes more comfortable with Willa he begins to look into ways that may help with his hearing (where he had enjoyed the silence and feared what his hearing loss meant). Willa must also overcome her fear of losing those she loves, therefore refusing to make attachments. Just an overall wonderful story about two emotionally fragile people coming together and opening their hearts and learning to trust. The Bergman family is very close, very loving, and communicate wonderfully with each other. They help each other, push each other, and comfort each other. The family rallies around Ryder in terms of his needs with his hearing, completely accommodating, they do not push him until he is ready to look into hearing aids. They fold Willa easily into their hearts, along with her very sick mother. Willa is so used to being just her and her mother, that being within a large family feels overwhelming. However, Willa knows they are okay that she needs space. Just a lovely family dynamic! I am quite excited to continue on with this series, with a fifth book coming out in May I have lots to look forward to.
