Tiffany is showing how brave she really can be, how adept she is at finding herself in strange situations. KJ is becoming true to herself, learning who she is and who she is not afraid to be, while also protecting her friends. Erin is taking more risks, using her wits and brains, she is quickly becoming the reason this pack of girls is surviving this strange time travel hiccup. New characters glean insight into the future and why this is all happening. Slowly revealing clues to who The Grandfather is and how these confused Paper Girls fit in to this immense time travel war. Raising questions of how the future came to be, how these travellers work, their codes and orders. The huge robots were a very cool touch, perfect for fans of nineties cartoons, comics and video games. I also enjoyed that Tiff was the only one who was able to witness their fighting, while they were cloaked. It seems that as they travel each of these girls is developing a strange skill or finding a weapon to use against their "enemies". Colour scheme is once again important. Bright colours usually mean something ominous is going to happen, while subdued colours are a brief respite from the fighting. Hints of colour are used to foreshadow trouble for our heroines. My confusion grows, while I am learning more it seems I am also falling behind on what might be truth and what might be fiction or propaganda. The jump at the end was fantastic and has me enthralled for the next installment. I found older Tiff hilarious and her interaction with the girls was perfect. The nods to the Y2K scare were priceless, including the issue headers with actual headlines or warnings issued around December 1999. The character, Chris, was pure goth and I loved that he looked like Eric Draven from The Crow (my all time favourite graphic novel). All of the pop culture references made me nostalgic for my childhood. Super excited for Paper Girls 5!
