I could also have been jaded by the fact the story did not focus on Sarah and Jareth. I hope maybe there is more of their connection in the next book. Jareth, as always, was alluring and dangerous, but also as self centred and egotistical as ever.
I think more background on characters would also have added dimension to the story. Some characters were very intriguing and hopefully their plots will be further developed in future. I did enjoy the addition of Moppet, she is secretive and there is something hidden about her that might be important to the story. Bits and pieces were revealed to imply that she might be human and that she is in hiding (maybe from the King?). The drawing is the traditional manga style, but again I felt some of the characters were not done quite right. Sarah looked nothing like her film self and Jareth changed from scene to scene. The goblins were well done though, creepy, goofy, and ugly. I also loved the throwback to our favourite film characters. Hoggle is now the Prince of the Bog of Eternal Stench. Sir Didymus is now a guard of the King and Ludo is his lovable, big-hearted self. The Fire Gang was back as the comedic element of the story, which worked well to break some of the confusion and tension of the story. I am curious to see where the story is leading, so I will likely read the rest of the series. However, for a huge fan of The Labyrinth, I had expected a bit more story, character development, action, Sarah, and a lot more Jareth!
