I especially loved the open ended stories, where there is somewhat of a resolution for the main character(s), but there is still a question or plot device at the end that suggests the horror is not over. These stories were able to surprise me, while staying true to their younger audience. I did enjoy that each story began and ended with a scream. A fantastic way to tie all of the tales together and a neat way to see where the authors would take the plot device. Quite a few opted to use animals in their tales. This usually worked well, especially those animals we tend to consider tame, cute, cuddly and weak. This flips reality on its head and forces the reader to contemplate what could happen were things slightly different. Also, this asks the reader to not take things for granted, as they may appear small and weak, but they will prove themselves otherwise. Overall, an okay middle grade read. While I could have left some of the stories, the great stories made up for the ho-hum. If you like horror and are a younger reader, then I recommend this for a fun, somewhat scary read.
