Each character was well formed and Cara was the perfect character to tell the story, keeping the reader on their toes with what she does and does not know. Following along with Cara you feel her fear, her apprehension, her guilt, her hope and love. There were moments in this novel where I was completely creeped out, where I was glad I was not alone in my room, especially all the goings on with Elsie. A fantastic twist, well crafted, that added suspense and depth to an already fascinating story. There were so many surprises that helped move the narrative along, helped to add character depth, and helped the reader to truly understand Cara and her family. The curse was both explained, but was also left with a bit of a mystery around it. I liked that not everything is placed in the readers palm, that the reader must use deduction and imagination to full understand. There are moments about the power of secrets, moments about the power of family, moments about the power of blindly believing something; all of them slightly explain this phenomena of the accident season, but none of them really sit well as the whole reason behind this curse. The character interaction was also well written, with moments of clarity, anger, justice, and disbelief. It is when Cara, Alice, Bea, and Sam are working together that they best protect each other. I loved each character, especially Bea; who is confident in herself, although she reads tarot cards when she becomes unsure of herself or wants to hide behind a facade, she is also unapologetic. The whole narrative is written in a way that there was no moment of boredom, I was intrigued from the very first page until the last. Highly recommend this eerie read, especially this time of year. I am excited to read more from this author.
