This was an intricately detailed description of life as hotel turn-down service. Molly is very articulate about her cleaning methods and about her disgust with filth and other people who are not as thorough in their cleaning as Molly. Molly's unique sense of the world, as this book is told from her first person perspective, is naive but she is also able to perceive the best in others. She is presented as being an autistic character, although this is only ever alluded to and not outright addressed on the page, as well as having OCD. Her inability to grasp social constructs often frustrates her, but she uses her Gran's idioms in order to parse out the world around her and how to behave "appropriately" in it. I absolutely loved Molly as a character. Her adherence to truth, to believing in others, and to sticking to her dislike when someone is obviously a "bad egg". She has no qualms about telling Mr. Snow (the Hotel Manager) about every small indiscretion she happens to come across. This often ostracizes her from other staff, without them knowing that she is a firm believer that to cross a line is to make the place she works and loves also tarnished. She is so keen to help keep the reputation of the hotel in tact. I absolutely loathed how everyone used Molly so abysmally. They would often treat her like a child, or as though she were incompetent, simply because she does not understand social cues. The amount of people who disrespect her, steal from her, misuse her (to the point where someone believes they can pin a murder on her), had me seething. It was nice to finally have people who truly seemed to care about Molly, who took their time to actually listen and help where they could. The police were despicable in their handling of Molly, but Molly's true friends were about to show Molly's character to be pure. I did find some instances not fully believable as they relied on Molly going against her own character and her own beliefs in order to bring justice. While I loved that she was able to do it, I did not understand how she could justify her actions or not reveal all. The ending did seem a bit neat and tidy, although one part was unresolved when I had hoped for revenge. A great, cozy mystery with some good twists and turns to look out for. Lauren Ambrose is the narrator for the audiobook and she was perfect!
