My favourite character is the "newest" addition to the club, Joyce. A former nurse she is just seemingly so excited to be involved that she seems mostly to be there for support. But in reality she is kind, witty, sharp, and really the heart of the group. I especially love that her chapters are formatted as diary entries, as it makes Joyce the most empathetic and relatable character. Plus, she is just so hilarious in her diary, no holds barred (revealing her hilarious Instagram handle, etc.). The twists and turns were always intriguing (and surprising), but this group always has something "up their sleeves". They certainly have a way of turning things in their favor and exacting the perfect revenge (in the case of Ibrahim's assault). I liked the plot of this one, even more than the first. I found it interesting to learn more about Elizabeth's past and watch her continue to navigate spy waters (while also remaining herself, away from the world of quiet espionage, to reveal all to her close friends). I also like the side relationships they have with the police officers Chris and Donna, and the very hunky and mysterious Bogdan. These three are pulled in to all of their schemes and sort of just allow themselves to be jostled around whatever board the group is playing on. They know that they are important to the group and they have also come to see each other as family. I especially love the connection between Bogdan and Elizabeth's husband, Stephen, who has dementia. There were so many moments where I laughed out loud while listening. Moments when I feared for our characters. Moments when I could not stop smiling for this group who defy the world and what it believes a retiree should do and be! Highly recommend!
