There were quite a few unbelievable moments, which kept pulling me out of the story, even as it kept the leads on their toes. They just seemed to hollywood romcom, which I suppose is what they were meant to be, but really made the novel too unrealistic. The main reason I did not click with this story, it falls into a category of book that I just do not enjoy. In this case, Olive continuously talking about Ethan in terms of his looks and not really talking about his personality. For me, this made it seem that their relationship was not very real, they did not genuinely like each other. The hate moments worked, pulled against each other, but there was not enough of them actually learning about each other and realizing their mistakes to make me believe that they could fall into dating, let alone love. Olive only really seems to see Ethan as a buff, gorgeous guy. Also, Olive talks about how curvy and not in Ethan's league she is, while Ethan continuously has to boost her confidence by telling her how hot she is, sigh... For a character that keeps saying how body confident she is, she keeps mentioning her curves, her busty chest, her not being Ethan's type, yadda yadda. I also thought the story lost steam when they returned from vacation. Too much drama and a lot of Olive changing herself for others (although, it is thinly veiled as her wanting to better herself). Really, I found I liked Olive more when she was being pessimistic and realistic (in fact, that is the whole reason she helped her sister from a terrible situation). The humour was contagious, and the outrageous scenes on Maui between the two leads had me drawn in, so there were some bits of the book that had mass appeal. I just found, for myself, that it was hard to connect to the characters and the story. This was definitely not my favourite Christina Lauren, I urge you all to read Autoboyography. Side note: half a star just for all the pop culture references throughout the novel. Especially, the nod to Mrs. White (Madeline Kahn) from Clue (1985 movie starring a ton of amazing actors, and an all time favourite of mine).
