Paint Nite = Drinking Creatively

28/1/2015

Last night a friend of mine from The Community Edition and I went out for an evening of drinking and painting at Paint Nite KW.

Taking place at Symposium Cafe in Waterloo, we were given a blank canvas, three paint brushes and red, black, blue and white paint. Our instructor, licensee for Kitchener-Waterloo Erin Bunting, took to her microphone and asked us to place our hands on the canvas and take an oath. We pledged to be creative, have fun, and to not be too judgmental of our artistic abilities. It seemed rather funny at the time, but really was a great ice breaker (in what turned out to be a room full of women I didn't know, except for my friend Anna).

With a nineties playlist soothing our brush strokes, we went about using the "papa bear" brush to create a light blue background. We chuckled as we attempted to texture by doing small cross-stitch brush strokes. I floundered at making a penis shaped cloud, which I later corrected with the pink. It was interesting to see the different colours and patterns each person was attempting to create.

Elora Journeys

21/1/2015

Each year my mom and I visit Elora at least once for some shopping. We have a couple favourite stores we hit up, mainly Jammed Lovely. Sometimes we bring the little one with us, sometimes it's just me and mom time. This past Sunday, we brought the wee one with us to shop, eat and have fun.

Our first stop was to Pod, a fashion store that was having a winter sale. We didn't end up buying anything, but we are always interested in checking out their unique fashion, jewelry and handbags. As we were leaving the little one wanted a treat, so we decided to try out the new-ish Ashanti Coffee (where an antique store used to be). Furnished nicely, friendly staff, and the cheapest (but still delicious) cup of London Fog I have ever had. We also enjoyed the cranberry/lemon cookies (although too rich for the babe, she ate the sample cookies they were giving out).

Chef D Entertains Oktoberfest Staff

15/1/2015

Every year we have a Christmas dinner involving all of the Oktoberfest staff. Last year, for the first time, we were treated to a private dinner at the home of Chef D. Chef D is the popular host of ChefDtv.com, an innovative online cooking show, and At Home with Chef D, a local show on Rogers TV, Kitchener. It was so delicious that we wanted to repeat it for our 2014 Christmas.

Last year we went for appetizers at Moose Winooski's, which we regretted when we went to Chef D's for a four course meal. So, this year we were going to cut back, get a couple drinks at Moose's, one tray of apps and that was it. We ended up with too many apps again, and because one of our coworkers new the owner he treated us to dessert, which we could not refuse. So we got the mini cupcakes to try and limit the intake, they were delicious (see the skor cupcake to the right), but once again we were full by the time we got to Chef D's home. Luckily, we had some chit-chat time before we were asked to take our seats. Just enough time to digest a bit of our pre-meal munchies.

Being sick

14/1/2015

Sorry again for the delay in posting, but this past week has been a rough one. Our little one caught the flu and was sick at night for a few days. Fine during the day, her chipper self just with less appetite, but just could not keep anything down during the night. Was horrible, as we couldn't do anything for her and we were both on high alert during the night whenever she made a noise. The first night she was sick we spent most of the night cleaning sheets and her, while trying to calm her down. We could tell she wasn't understanding what had happened and was happening when, the next day, I was making her bed and she innocently said "I was having a big burp last night and got everything dirty". It was both adorable and sad, because you cannot really correct it, since she has never had the experience of throwing up like that before. We have been lucky up to this point, and even if I did need to take three of my six sick days off work, it was worth it to know she was okay and to cuddle with her and make her feel better. The last two nights she has been sleeping well, just tossing and turning a bit, and her appetite seems to be coming back. Pedialite freezies and yogurt saved us the last few days. In the mean time, been cold as all get out, but the beauty of winter prevails.

Good Ol' Hockey Game and Christmas Lights

6/1/2015

Well, back to work after my two week Christmas break/hiatus; playing with the little one, driving for the first time solo with her, visits with family and friends, and an all around amazing time. It is a shame I have to go back, but reality calls and I like to be able to afford pretty and fun things.

December 21st was a great day for our family. We decided to have a day exploding with excitement. Which, of course, began with a Waterloo Siskins game (which they won 6-3). It was so fun watching our little one get into the atmosphere of the arena. We ate popcorn and drank a slushie, we walked around the arena a few times, we checked out what was going on, and we people watched. She wanted to go down to the glass and watch the action up close. This girl only knows one sport and that is hockey, every other sport she sees is "hockey" according to her. It's adorable! We are planning to visit a few more games throughout the season, and maybe a Golden Hawks game here or there.
