After having lunch in the cafeteria, we all went outside to see the beautiful view on the lookout deck. Algonquin Park spread out before us in a sea of greens and browns, off in the distance a river could be seen along an expanse of grass bordered on all sides by trees. I stood, looking at what nature is capable of and let my breath mingle with the air being released by hundred year old trees. Just outside the comfort of this man-made structure was the wilderness, and I was just a little speck of dust. My mom grabbed a photograph of me and the babe, then one of our little family unit (which we later found out she was also filming while taking the photographs, what a pro). We all agreed it was time to go hiking on one of the trails.

When staying at a cottage my one and only plan is to read lots; by the water, on the beach, on the cottage sofa, before bed (the first time I went to Stan's Cottages I read an over 500 page novel about Robin Hood and Maid Marian, entitled Lady of the Forest). I was a teenager and really into fantasy novels that included romance; I know what you're thinking, nerd!!!! (I was, and proud of it, still am most of the time). After having a child your priorities shift a bit, not necessarily because you want them to, but because you have a few other things on your mind; including keeping tabs on a baby who has become an expert crawler and has decided to go from standing to sitting in a flash to get where and to what she wants. So instead, this cottage trip consisted of keeping an eye on the babe, reading when I could, and deciding what photograph needed to be taken at what moment with the new addition to our little family unit. It was EXHAUSTING!
Today the little one and I were signed up for a Baby Signing Introductory Course with WeeHands. Unfortunately, it was cancelled due to not having enough people sign up, I did not know this before I walked over there. However, the instructor of the course, Sara, came out to greet me, loved the babe to pieces, strolled the stroller into her room and sat down with me for twenty minutes anyway. She gave me a list of words to begin practicing with the little one, all words that we would use often with her. She talked to the babe and me, gave us information about the program, took my information to send me more, and let me know she is hoping to do another introductory session in August. I must say I was absolutely impressed, Sara was amazing, and she has convinced me both to go to the next introductory class and sign up for the course come fall. I think our little one will love learning sign, and it's such a wonderful way to communicate with baby when their words aren't quite formed yet. We walked home in a refreshing mist, smiles on our faces as the baby played with the handle of the umbrella I had fashioned as a cover for her stroller.
Our list: mommy, daddy, cat, owl, peas, book, jump, music, more and milk. Please check out WeeHands if you are interested in something like this. Sorry I have not written for over a week. I have been away on vacation with family. We spent a week at Stan's Cottages near Combermere, Ontario; away from the hustle/bustle of city living and out in the natural world with the water lapping at the shores and surrounding the campfire at sunset.
The first weekend was spent with my mom, aunt, sister, brother-in-law and our little ones cousin. We had a splendid time checking out Barry's Bay (had to stop as I forgot my bathing suit), making hamburgers and hot dogs the first night, my sister and her husband made pesto pasta and Italian sausage the next night. We enjoyed watching the cousins playing together, and watched as our little baby stole one toy after another from her younger cousin. She also liked to pet her hair and watch her as her cousin squirmed around on the wood floor trying to find purchase to sit. They sat together on the beach, where we bombarded them with bubbles for photos and their fun, our baby decided she wasn't a fan and kept trying to get away.
